Installation Method
Slide an expansion collar over the end of the PEX-A pipe.
Insert the expansion tool head into the pipe and expand the pipe and collar according to the tool manufacturer's instructions.
Quickly remove the tool and insert the PEX valve fitting into the expanded pipe until it contacts the shoulder of the fitting.
Hold the fitting in place as the PEX-A pipe and collar shrink around it, forming a strong, permanent seal.
Applications & System Integration
Potable hot and cold water distribution systems
Residential and multi-family plumbing
Radiant heating and cooling systems
Water service lines in areas with corrosive water
Hydronic piping and distribution manifolds
General plumbing repairs and renovations

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a cold expansion PEX valve and a crimp PEX valve?
A cold expansion PEX valve is designed for PEX-A tubing and installed using an ASTM F1960 expansion tool. A crimp PEX valve uses a copper crimp ring or stainless steel clamp for standard crimp systems under ASTM F1807 or F2098. These connection systems are different and are not interchangeable.
Can I use this 304 stainless steel PEX fitting with PEX-B or PEX-C tubing?
No. This valve is designed exclusively for ASTM F1960 cold expansion systems, which require the thermal memory of PEX-A tubing to shrink and form a seal. Using it with PEX-B or PEX-C tubing will result in connection failure.
Is this ball valve suitable for underground burial?
While 304 stainless steel offers good corrosion resistance, local plumbing codes and manufacturer guidelines should be consulted before direct burial. Soil conditions, moisture levels, and environmental factors must be considered.
How does cold expansion affect the durability of 304 stainless steel PEX ball valves?
The cold expansion process affects the PEX-A pipe, not the stainless steel valve. The valve remains structurally unchanged and continues to provide a rigid, corrosion-resistant anchor point for the connection.
How do I troubleshoot leaks in cold expansion PEX connections?
Leaks in new cold expansion connections typically indicate installation errors. Verify the pipe was expanded properly, the fitting was fully inserted before shrinkage, and the correct size expansion collar was used. Any leaking connection must be cut out and replaced.
What does full port mean for a ball valve?
A full port ball valve has an internal opening that matches the inside diameter of the connecting pipe. This design minimizes flow restriction and pressure drop, allowing the system to operate more efficiently.
What is the maximum operating temperature for a system using this valve?
While the valve itself is rated up to 200°F (93°C), the maximum system operating temperature is determined by the PEX tubing manufacturer’s specifications. Always follow the pressure and temperature limits of the PEX pipe being used.
