Product Description
Cold Expansion PEX 90° Elbow for PEX-A Tubing in Potable and Hydronic Systems
Product Overview
This stainless steel cold expansion PEX 90° elbow connects two lengths of PEX-A tubing at a right angle using the ASTM F1960 expansion method. Designed for plumbing professionals and contractors, these stainless steel PEX fittings provide superior corrosion resistance in aggressive water environments where brass may fail.
Note: Compatible with PEX-A tubing using the ASTM F1960 cold expansion method only. Not compatible with PEX-B tubing, crimp rings, or clamp systems.

Installation Method
Required Tools:
PEX Expansion Tool (Manual hand tool or Battery)
PEX-A Expansion Rings/Collars
PEX Cutter
Steps:
Cut the PEX-A tubing square and remove any burrs.
Slide the PEX reinforcement ring over the tubing end.
Insert the expansion tool head into the tubing and expand until the tubing reaches the shoulder of the tool.
Remove the tool and immediately insert the stainless steel PEX fitting into the expanded tubing.
Hold the fitting in place until the tubing memory contracts and secures the connection.
Note: Requires PEX expansion tool and expansion collars. Not compatible with crimp tools.

Frequently Asked Questions
What tools are essential for cold expansion PEX plumbing projects?
You must use a dedicated expansion tool, either manual or battery-powered, designed for ASTM F1960 systems. A PEX cutter and compatible PEX-A expansion rings are also required. Standard crimp or clamp tools are not compatible with cold expansion fittings.
What are the differences between stainless steel and brass cold expansion PEX 90° elbows?
Stainless steel provides significantly higher corrosion resistance than brass, especially in aggressive water environments or areas with elevated chloride levels. Brass may be susceptible to dezincification, while 304 stainless steel offers greater long-term stability and durability.
What warranty should I expect on premium stainless PEX expansion fittings?
Warranty coverage typically protects against manufacturing defects when fittings are installed according to manufacturer instructions and local plumbing codes. Always review the specific product documentation for detailed warranty terms and conditions.
Can I use these fittings with PEX-B tubing?
No. These fittings are designed exclusively for PEX-A tubing, which has the thermal memory required for the ASTM F1960 cold expansion method. PEX-B tubing does not provide the same expansion characteristics and may fail to seal properly.
Are these fittings lead-free?
Yes. These fittings are manufactured from 304 stainless steel, which is inherently lead-free. They are certified to NSF/ANSI 61 and NSF/ANSI 372 standards for potable water safety and low lead compliance.
Do I need to use a specific type of expansion ring?
Yes. You must use PEX-A expansion rings, also known as reinforcing rings, that comply with the ASTM F1960 standard. These rings apply continuous compressive force to create a secure and permanent seal.
Can this elbow be reused if I make a mistake during installation?
Best practice is to use new fittings and expansion rings for any reinstallation to ensure proper sealing and code compliance. Once expanded, the PEX tubing and expansion ring cannot be reused. The connection should be cut out and replaced with a new section of tubing and ring.
